What is "PV"?
PV, or photovoltaic, systems offer consumers the ability to generate electricity in a clean, quiet and reliable way. The word photovoltaic comes from "photo," meaning light, and "voltaic," which refers to producing electricity.
A PV system consists of a module of photovoltaic cells. When light enters the cell, the photons from the light react with the semiconductor material, causing a potential difference, freeing electrons to flow through an external circuit and back into the cell. This flow of electrons is what produces electric current.
Types of Solar PV Systems
There are three main types of solar photovoltaic power systems: Interactive, Off-Grid, and Grid-Tie/Battery Backup.
Interactive Solar Power
The Interactive system uses no battery, but instead offsets the amount of power you're using by selling power back to the utility company.
This option is used most frequently and is the most cost effective where it can help reduce your overall energy costs and contribute to the "green" energy movement.
Off-Grid Solar Power
An Off-Grid system uses batteries and generators to store and distribute the energy, as opposed to going through your local utility. This system is used for those who want to rely solely on their own power source. Off-Grid solar power systems work particularly well for those in rural areas where space is abundant and/or no electricity is available. We can design and install an Off-Grid system to have enough energy production to completely replace power from a utility.
Grid-Tie / Battery Backup
A Grid-Tie with Battery Backup system is a hybrid where power is fed back to the utility company during normal usage, but during peak energy times, the utility may request that your system use the battery backup or generators for power to minimize the load on the utility.
This system works well for large commercial or industrial facilities such as grocery stores, department stores, or manufacturing facilities.
Easily Monitor Your Energy Consumption and Production
Each system that Carr Creek Electric Service installs has the option to monitor your daily energy consumption and production. These systems use cutting-edge technologies that are continuously being developed by the manufacturers.
